Among the waltzes beloved by dancers, “Soñar y nada más” stands at the very top of the list. With its winding melody that seems to delve ever further into a romantic mood, the song adds an enchanting atmosphere to its infectious rhythm.
Penned in 1911 by the budding pianist and composer Rosita Melo (who was just fourteen), “Desde el alma” was a hit just at the dawn of there being such a thing. It circulated in the days before modern copyright had been established, and won its composer attention as she advanced through her studies and early performing career.
Lyricist Homero Expósito (1918-1987) composed lyrics with a more impressionistic style, borrowing techniques from Symbolist poetry but with more sentiment and nostalgia than occult mystique.
